A collection of creative disciplines

Meet the architects, artists, and designers behind the scenes.

The Frontier Drive Inn is a Colorado thing—the plains, the sky, the silence, the stars. So we invited local Colorado artists, (and one from Miami) to paint our Nomadicana Airstream trailers, each one interpreting what the San Luis Valley means to them.

In our humble opinion—some of the very best artists come from our home state. We’re excited to display works by some of Colorado’s finest contemporary artists—our walls are blessed by the likes of Kim Allen, Stephen Batura, Brian Boettinger, Gifford Ewing, Tracy Felix, Hadley Hooper, John McEnroe, Margaret Neuman and David Zimmer. Additionally, we feature some international artists like Gonzalo Lebrija and Felix Gonzalo Torres. No two rooms are the same, so each time you stay with us is a whole new adventure for the senses.

The Skylos at the Frontier Drive-Inn are a one-of-a-kind, 3D printed experiment in habitation and technology. The project, designed by celebrated architect and artist Ron Rael and constructed with assistance of Logman Arja, was completed in 2022.

Our architect, T38 Studio, designed a unique site plan and accommodations for the Frontier. The T38 team took inspiration from one of the San Luis Valley’s most prolific features—crop circles—during the design process. Both Joseph Ruiz and Alfonso Medina, the lead designers on the project, mimicked the regular concentric farming practice to organize the clusters of units that make up the Frontier.

From inside the Snack Bar, you have one of the best views of the Frontier’s original screen, lit up by the latest in digital projection and surround-sound equipment. The 80′ screen was still on-site, and was renovated and reclad to bring it to a brand new condition. Supports were replaced, and the area underneath was clad with wood slats to create storage.

As with all Born Hospitality Group projects, the Frontier is an environmental experience, with personal care poured into both interior spaces and the surroundings. The landscape and high desert lifestyle that embodies the San Luis Valley is an identity that is consistently evoked throughout the property.
